Line Item Vetoes

  • The President can veto Acts of Congress.
    • Entire acts only
  • This becomes an issue when the President vetoes specific provisions of a stautte while the remainder of the Act goes into effect.
    • This is considered an attempt to increase executive power.
    • Held to be unconstitutional; the President may not utilize a line-item veto.
    • Congress cannot grant the President the ability to perform line-item vetoes either.
